Job Title: Director of Quality Assurance
 
Position Overview:
As GeBBS continues to capitalize on its strong foundation and rapid growth, we are seeking an outstanding HIM compliance and quality process leader to join the GeBBS organization. The Director of Compliance & Quality will be responsible for implementing effective quality management processes and managing quality staff to ensure industry leading service delivery to our clients. This is a remote role with some domestic and international travel. 

Responsibilities

  • In cooperation with GeBBs Business Excellence department, manages QA auditors to monitor US coder quality metrics, maintain quality scoring to include both all stateside HIM service lines including Professional Fee, Facility, Inpatient and Outpatient and coding and Audit. 
  • Assists in developing and maintaining coding and abstracting policies, procedures and guidelines. Provide input as requested regarding budgeting, expense management, quality, and departmental regulatory compliance
  • Works collaboratively with client’s Clinical Documentation Information Program (CDIP) to ensure that coding decisions support reimbursement for the level of service provided.
  • Establishes a comprehensive QA sampling procedure for all US coders consistent with Business Excellence directives and client coding guidelines to maintain industry leading quality service delivery.
  • Provides quantitative and qualitative information to coding operations regarding coder performance, trends and training opportunities and makes recommendations on themes that arise to maintain compliance with quality expectations.
  • Prepares templates for quality results communication to clients, compares metrics data and ensures accurate data is being reviewed with clients.
  • Interacts with clients’ compliance leaders as the stateside quality compliance advocate.
  • Monitors trends from metrics, digs into reports, collaboratively identifies challenge resolutions, improvements, and opportunities.
  • Develops client specific quality review protocols for QA needed for strategic clients, clients with various specialties/unique projects to ensure GeBBS QA reviews and consistent with client’s internal assessment of our quality.
  • Analyze contracts to ensure compliance to all quality related SLAs, and SLA performance against targets is tracked.
  • Coordinates the matrix of all QA that is done to ensure that all coders and clients receive at least the minimum QA in keeping with Business Excellence guidelines.
  • Engages at the executive level with clients to ensure strong client partnerships are built and maintained; serves as an escalation point for Quality Assurance and Education groups.
  • Sets goals and objectives for quality, education and consulting groups for the year.
  • Manages and provides mentorship to coding professionals and managers; develops and grows a compliance and quality culture across all US coding delivery.

Qualifications

  • At least eight (8) years’ experience with medical coding quality/audit management at a senior management/director level
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-9/10 CM/PCS, EM, and CPT-4 coding guidelines and methodologies
  • Strongly adheres to AHIMA’s Standards of Ethical Coding; AHIMA’s Code of Ethics; AHIMA’s Ethical Standards for CDI Professionals, ACDIS’ Code of Ethics, and the AAPC’s Code of Ethics.
  • Demonstrated success in a consulting environment with an ability to build relationships with clients
  • Strong people management skills to include hiring, development and performance management
  • Must have strong financial acumen skills and an awareness of how to manage projects profitably
  • Knowledge of quality improvement processes and approaches
  • Bachelor Degree in business or healthcare-related field of study preferred
  • AAPC or AHIMA medical coding certification required
  • Strong project management, verbal and written communication, customer service and analytical skills
  • This is a client facing role. Individual must have the ability to present and communicate with varying levels of client's management team 
  • Possess strong leadership qualities of integrity, the ability to motivate others and the ability to promote quality
  • Up to 20% travel
